Engage your students in Guy de Maupassant’s classic short story “The Necklace” with this fun and interactive Character Collabs project! In this activity, students will dive deep into character analysis as they explore Jeanne Forestier, Mathilde Loisel, and Monsieur Loisel. Their insights will come together on a collaborative poster that makes literary analysis both creative and memorable.
This hands-on activity encourages teamwork, critical thinking, and discussion while helping students build stronger comprehension and retention of the story.
The resource includes a Teacher Guide, Student Directions, a Holistic Rubric, a Brainstorm Character Analysis Worksheet, Blank Coloring Pages for each character, Answer Keys, Examples of Final Projects, and Digitally Colored Samples for every character. Editable versions of the directions, rubric, and brainstorm worksheet are also provided for easy customization.
To complete the project, students will work in groups to analyze their assigned character, record their findings on the poster’s sections, and collaborate to color and assemble the final display. Once taped together, each poster measures approximately 28" x 15" and can be printed on regular copy paper or cardstock for a lasting classroom showcase.
