Description
Have your students create a collaborative poster and learn about Maya Angelou in a new and engaging way! This interactive project invites students to research the inspiring life and legacy of one of America’s most influential writers and present their findings through a creative biography poster. Students will explore Maya Angelou’s journey as a poet, author, and civil rights activist while also developing collaboration and communication skills.
Working in small groups, students will research Maya Angelou, record their findings in the designated sections of the poster, and color or paint each piece to bring their project to life. Once the six pages are taped together, they form a cohesive and visually stunning display. The final poster measures 28" x 15", can be printed on regular copy paper or cardstock, and will last for years if laminated.
This resource includes step-by-step student directions, an author study project rubric, a graphic organizer, six blank coloring pages that combine into one complete poster, a Maya Angelou author study answer key, and a fully completed example showing both text and color.
This collaborative author study is a meaningful addition to any poetry or nonfiction unit, celebrating the enduring voice and wisdom of Maya Angelou!
