Description
Have your students demonstrate their understanding of any nonfiction or informational text by creatively blending written analysis with visual elements using this one-pager reading comprehension project. Students synthesize key ideas from informational texts by combining evidence-based writing with purposeful visual representation.
This informational text one-pager activity challenges students to analyze ELA standards–aligned skills such as main idea, inference, author’s purpose, text structure, and textual evidence. The format encourages close reading and critical thinking while allowing students to creatively present their learning.
An included example one pager is based on the educational article “How Jackie Robinson Changed Baseball” by Jessica McBirney, written in 2017, providing teachers with a clear model for student expectations.
One-pagers invite students to think outside the box while maintaining academic rigor. The balance of creative freedom and intellectual rigor makes this project a strong alternative to traditional assessments, and completed projects also make beautiful classroom decor and bulletin board displays.
This resource includes
Student directions, a rubric for assessment, an example one pager, ten printable templates (optional), and an editable Word document so teachers can modify the assignment as needed.
