Have your students create a collaborative poster and learn about Nathaniel Hawthorne in a new and engaging way! This creative project encourages students to explore the life, works, and influence of one of America’s most iconic authors through a hands-on, cooperative activity. Students will research Nathaniel Hawthorne’s life, major writings, and literary legacy while developing essential teamwork and communication skills.
This project is a great addition to any novel study of The Scarlet Letter. Working in groups, students will research Nathaniel Hawthorne, record their findings in the designated sections of the poster, and color each piece to bring their project to life. Once the six pages are taped together, the completed display forms a cohesive and visually striking poster. The final product measures 28" x 15", can be printed on regular copy paper or cardstock, and will last for years if laminated.
This resource includes student directions, a rubric, a graphic organizer, six blank coloring pages that combine into one complete poster, a Nathaniel Hawthorne answer key, and an example of the final project showing both text and color.
This collaborative author study is the perfect addition to any American literature unit, allowing students to connect deeply with Hawthorne’s themes of morality, guilt, and human nature.
