Description
Use this resource to introduce your students to Literary Legends in a fresh, engaging, and collaborative way! Inspire teamwork and creativity with this Frederick Douglass author study activity, where students will research Douglass and create a vibrant, informative poster that showcases his extraordinary life and legacy.
Students will explore the life of Frederick Douglass—an influential author, activist, abolitionist, orator, and diplomat—while developing essential skills in collaboration and communication. This Black History Month activity is an excellent fit for any ELA classroom and encourages meaningful discussions about resilience, equality, and the power of words.
Working in groups, students will research Frederick Douglass, record their findings in the designated sections of the poster, and color or paint each piece. When the six pages are taped together, they form a cohesive and visually striking display. The final poster measures 28" x 15", can be printed on regular copy paper or cardstock, and will last for years if laminated.
This resource includes step-by-step student directions, an author study project rubric, a brainstorm graphic organizer, six blank coloring pages that come together as one complete poster, a Frederick Douglass author study answer key, and a fully completed example showing both text and color.
This collaborative project is a meaningful way to celebrate Black History Month and inspire students through the life and legacy of Frederick Douglass!
